Even though the ministry is currently providing the equivalent of more than 227,000 meals annually to Islanders in need, the demand continues to grow. Currently, the food bank is only able to provide, on average, the equivalent of three days-worth of food per family member per month; and the soup kitchen is only able to operate on a limited schedule. One needs only to visit the food bank before a major food drive and see the rows and rows of empty shelves, to realize the challenges that staff and volunteers face on an ongoing basis.

To put it plainly, more funds will enable the ministry to serve more families and individuals in need.

Most Islanders are aware that many of us are only a few pay cheques away from the position in which Upper Room clients find themselves. We know that it could just as easily be us or a loved one applying for a membership card to the food bank in order to feed their children, or visiting the soup kitchen on a cold winter’s day.
